6 Bolt Crank

I had to work on my wife's car this week. Last time she got her tires change, some jackass screwed up the threads on one of the studs. Instead of telling her, the just left the lug nut off. Great quality. I took me about five minutes to fix the threads and bought a new lug nut. Also, had to replace the brake pads.

After the wife's car, I reward my self to some tool buying. Had to get some tools for the polishing some engine parts. Went to a couple of places. Best deal I found was Harbor Freight had a Aluminum polishing kit for about $20. Came with a lot of buffing fixtures. Can see it in the picture below.

The first place I started was the back of my JM Fab intake manifold. The reason I started on the back was because I have never polished anything before in my life. So, I first tried just using the wax and buffer pads.

However you can see all the mill work.

So I started sanding the test portion out. Started at 400 grit, and worked my way up to 2000 grit. Then re-polished the intake manifold.

I did find out that I had to randomized the buffing. This will make it shine better then polishing one way. After learning how to buff, I did the front, top, and sides. Also did a quick job on the runners.

I worked on the valve cover next. It did have the letters shaved, but that was all. I cleaned up a lot of the casting marks. During the week, I will have it hot tank to clean it up. Then finish it up next weekend.
