I am in complete remission. :)
*** 6/28/08
I back in business. Can only work about an hour or two, but at least I
can work. Still really weak from chemo and taking it slow. Good news
that I am headed for a full remission and my final chemo was about 3
weeks ago. Will start updating the status page with my progress.
Welcome to my DSM project page. I am currently working on a 97 Eagle
Talon TSI AWD. Changing all aspects of the car. Please use the menu
links above to surf the site.
A big question I get is, "Why are you building this car?" It is a pretty
simple answer, "because I want to." After spending time in college, and
putting a large amount of time into my career, I never had a chance to build a
car. My Dad and I always talked about it, but never
did anything.
Sad to say, my Dad passed away. It gives you perspective on life. After my
Dad got his PhD from the School of Mines, he built a bar in his
basement. He said he needed to do something with his hands. He didn't
know how to build a bar, but had experience with carpentry. My Grandpa
was a carpenter. So my Dad learned about floating walls, bar height, and
so on. He built one of the best bars I have ever seen. Besides texturing
the walls, he did it all. I did help out every once in awhile.
Now that I moved back to Colorado, I want to build a car. I wanted a coupe and not a 4-door. Being in
Colorado, I wanted a AWD car. This made the list pretty short. A 2G DSM
was the best option. Tons of aftermarket parts and a lot of DSM Forums to
help build the car. I bought a 97 Eagle Talon TSI AWD that had a
6-Bolt swap already done. The kid said it was a stroker, but it turned out
to be just bored out. There were a lot of thing wrong with the car, and
I probably paid too much for it. But that is just part of life and the
beginning of my journey.
I am an Electrical Engineer and got my degree from the School of Mines.
After graduation I moved to Arizona to work for Intel. Currently, I am a
Design Architect for AMD. The reason I am saying this is because I have
very little experience in auto body or car mechanics, but I am a pretty smart
guy. Sure I know had to change the oil and brakes pads, but never
rebuilt an engine. So I bought the service manuals, Haynes manuals,
school books, and read millions of forum posts. I learned a plethora skills
and started work. The only thing that will be done by someone else will
be the head work. I just don't have the tools, and the head is too
important. I am even planning on building a paint booth in the garage to
paint the car. I know that I will make tons of mistakes. The car will not
be perfect, but that is not the point. It is not the car, it is the
journey.
When I am done, I will probably use it as a daily driver during the warm
months. I will take it to Bandimere sometimes and have fun with it.
To the people that say that I am stupid for doing this, or that I am never
going to finish - it is not that I haven't heard that before. I heard it
during high school, where people told me that I will never finish high school. I
am sure the Slayer T-shirt and black leather coat didn't help. I
graduated Columbine High School and went on to Colorado School of Mines.
Even then people told me that I would never finish and that 2 out of 3 people
drop out of the Mines. I graduated in May 2000 and started work at
Intel. I rose the ranks and changed methodologies. I had people at Intel
say that my designs will never work and told me that I was an idiot. After
proving my designs with data, those people had to use my designs. Also, I
am the only one at Intel that has a cell library named after me, which I
designed. I have wrote papers, presented at a conference, and currently
have two patents being filed. Now I am a Design Architect for AMD. So
please email me; tell me that I am not going to finish - It only drives me to prove you wrong.
